U.S. President Joe Biden is not planning talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the White House said.
Press Secretary Jane Psaki said that Russia must de-escalate in order to restore direct contact between the two countries.
"Diplomacy cannot be successful unless Russia changes course. And, as Anthony Blinken said, it would not be appropriate for him to have a meeting now with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Lavrov. And it was always assumed that there would be any interaction with President Putin after that," she stressed.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken canceled a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on February 24. For her part, she noted that Blinken's decision to cancel the meeting with Lavrov did not mean the end of the diplomatic approach.
