Canada imposes a number of sanctions against Russia and strengthens NATO forces - Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada is imposing a series of economic sanctions against Russia.

"Russia's illegal actions in Ukraine are an attack on democracy and a threat to world peace. Make no mistake: this is another invasion of a sovereign state. In coordination with allies and partners, Canada is responding with the first set of economic sanctions," Trudeau tweeted Wednesday.

The minister also said Canada has sent additional troops to bolster NATO's force.

"We are also sending up to 460 additional members of the Canadian Armed Forces to strengthen NATO. This includes sending additional troops to Latvia as well as deploying an additional frigate and maritime patrol aircraft," he also wrote.
