Russia's recognition of the so-called "L/DPR" confirms Russia's withdrawal from the Minsk agreements - joint statement of the presidents of Ukraine and Estonia

Russia's recognition of the so-called "Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics" confirms its deliberate unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Estonian President Alara Karisa said in a joint statement on Tuesday. The official Internet representation of the Ukrainian President reported.

As emphasized in the statement released by the press service of the Ukrainian president, the parties assess the Russian recognition of the so-called "LPR" and "DPR" as a clear violation of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and a serious blow to the political and diplomatic settlement, on the promotion of which Ukraine and its partners are actively working.

"The parties strongly condemn the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine that began in 2014, as well as aggressive rhetoric, ultimatums and threats to use force by the Russian Federation. The sides strongly reject provocations and attempts by the Russian Federation to aggravate the already tense security situation," the statement stressed.

Ukraine and Estonia call on the Russian Federation to choose the path of diplomacy, to take urgent measures to de-escalate and stop destabilizing the security situation in and around Ukraine, in particular to withdraw its armed forces from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and from the immediate vicinity of the Ukrainian border.

The parties also reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the crisis and will continue to work towards a united and peaceful Europe, of which Ukraine is an integral part. They reaffirm the fundamental right of each nation to freely choose its security measures and exclude any attempts to create demarcation lines in Europe.
