The White House reported that US President Joe Biden will soon announce the imposition of sanctions against all those involved in the activities of illegal formations in the occupied territory of Ukraine - the so-called "DPR" and "LPR".
"We expected such a decision from Russia and are ready to respond immediately. President Biden will soon release an executive order banning any financial, investment, and trade transactions by U.S. citizens from the territory of the so-called "LPR" and "DPR" or with their representatives.This decree will also provide authority to impose sanctions against any person with respect to whom any activities on the territory controlled by these formations are established," the statement reads.
The White House promised to tell about a number of other decisions that will be introduced because of Russia's "recognition" of illegal armed groups in Donbas.
Additional details on the imposed sanctions will be given to State Department and Treasury Department officials after President Biden signs them.
The press service explained that these sanctions are not part of and do not refer to the package of strict economic measures that the U.S., together with its allies and partners, planned to introduce against Russia in case of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
