As noted by the White House spokeswoman, the U.S. anticipated such a move by Russia and is ready to respond immediately.
"President Biden will soon issue an executive order prohibiting new investment, trade, and financing by U.S. persons in and from the so-called DPR and LPR regions of Ukraine.
This executive order will also give the power to impose sanctions on any person set to work in these regions of Ukraine," Psaki stressed.
The White House spokeswoman also stressed that the State Department and Treasury Department will soon announce additional details.
"We will also soon be announcing additional measures in response to Russia's blatant violation of international obligations today. To be clear: These measures are separate and will be in addition to the swift and severe economic measures we are preparing in coordination with allies and partners in the event of further Russian invasion of Ukraine. We continue to consult closely with allies and partners, including Ukraine, on next steps and Russia's continued escalation along the border with Ukraine," Psaki stresses.
