Today in Brussels, the foreign ministers of the 27 EU member states are discussing the situation with the pulling of Russian troops to the Ukrainian borders. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was also an active participant in the meeting.
"Russia's attempts to recreate dividing lines on the European continent undermine the basic principles on which European security is built, and the full and unwavering support for Ukraine is reaffirmed," the EU Council said before the meeting in Brussels.
Even before the meeting began, Dmytro Kuleba shared his expectations from the meeting.
"We expect decisions. There are many decisions that the EU can make today and send clear signals to Russia that its escalation will not be tolerated and Ukraine will not be left alone with the aggressor state. This includes not only political signals, but also very concrete actions. Support for the defense and security sector. Support for Ukraine's cybersecurity. The introduction of some sanctions already now, and I will convey this signal to our European colleagues today," the words of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister are quoted on the official page of the department in FB.
According to Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine considers the most optimal format for discussing de-escalation and the formation of new security guarantees to be a summit in the format of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Ukraine, Germany and Turkey.
The minister said this during a briefing after a meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels, in which he participated.
"Regarding a possible summit of the U.S. and Russian presidents. Ukraine welcomes any diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the development of the conflict. At the same time, we believe that the most optimal format for holding a discussion on de-escalation and forming new security guarantees is a summit in the format of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Ukraine, Germany and Turkey," Dmytro Kuleba said.
"Ukraine's security is now the number one priority. We will use every, smallest diplomatic opportunity to guarantee it," he stressed and added that he was leaving Brussels for Washington to continue diplomatic efforts to curb Russia's aggressive intentions against Ukraine.
