U.S. prepares first package of sanctions against Russian banks - Reuters

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has prepared the first package of sanctions against Russia, which will prohibit the processing of transactions of large Russian banks. This was reported by Reuters citing its own sources.

As the agency notes, sanctions against Russia will be applied in case of its invasion of Ukraine. They should reduce the correspondent relations of US banks and the Russian Federation, which allow international payments.

The list of banks that may be under sanctions is not fully formed. According to the agency, the restrictions are likely to affect VTB, Sberbank, VEB and Gazprombank.

In addition, the United States will impose sanctions on Russian individuals and legal entities. They provide for freezing of assets and ban on any transactions.

The White House and the U.S. Treasury declined to comment for Reuters.
