Politico named a new timeline for Russia's invasion of Ukraine

Politico, which had previously written about the "Russian invasion" on February 16, now names a new "time frame to really keep an eye on. We're talking about a time frame after February 20.

"Importantly, senior Biden aides have never publicly stated that Feb. 16 would be a specific day of invasion - only that Russian President Vladimir Putin's troop buildup meant that an attack could occur "at any time" and possibly before the Olympics are over," Politico assures.

The publication, citing analysts, writes that "the obsession with February 16 has distracted attention from the real key dates."

"The time after Feb. 20 was always more important. We'll see what Russian forces do then," the publication quotes Michael Coffman, an expert on the Russian armed forces at the Center for Naval Analysis, as saying.

That is when the largest military exercises are due to end, after which leaders in Moscow and Minsk have promised that Russian troops will go home, Politico writes.

Coffman said the actions of Russian troops after Feb. 20 would help to understand Putin's true intentions.

"There is another reason February 20 is important: it is the day the Munich Security Conference concludes," the publication writes.

Moreover, February 20 is also the last day of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which, according to Politico, "suggests to some that Putin will not launch an invasion before the closing ceremony to make Chinese leader Xi Jinping happy."
