Russian President Vladimir Putin received an appeal from the State Duma to recognize the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" and "Luhansk People's Republic. The head of state took them into consideration, but considers the main task to be the implementation of the Minsk agreements. This was reported by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

The Minsk agreements prohibit the recognition of parts of Ukraine's territory as separate republics. According to Peskov, such recognition "does not correlate with the existing agreements."

"The president received the appeal, he responded to it, he took it into account. Indeed, this appeal is probably a very striking indicator of the mood and our deputies, and the prevailing point of view in the public opinion of our country. But the president emphasized that the main thing is to help resolve the situation in the southeast, and that this can only be done by facilitating the implementation of the Minsk Package of Measures in every way possible. That is what the president will focus on in his work," Peskov said.

At the same time, the Russian Federation believes that Russia can issue Russian passports to residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

We shall remind you that on 15 February, the Russian State Duma supported an appeal to President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Luhansk people's republic.
