The State Duma passed a resolution to immediately send the Duma's appeal to the Russian President on the need to recognize the "DPR" and "LPR". The relevant decision was adopted by a rating vote.
The document, submitted by United Russia MPs Viktor Vodolatsky and Artem Turov, which provided for consultations with the Russian Foreign Ministry first, was considered along with a draft resolution from the CPRF faction, which called for the State Duma to immediately address the Russian president with a request to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR.
The Communists' draft received the highest number of votes - 351, while the United Russia initiative received 310.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said:
"The resolution will be signed immediately and sent to the head of state."
