Rape jokes are outrageous: the White House commented on Putin's words "bear with me, my beauty" to Ukraine

The White House reacted to Russian President Vladimir Putin's words "bear with me, my beauty" to Ukraine and said that any joke about rape is outrageous. White House press secretary Jen Psaki noted this at a briefing.

One journalist asked Psaki to comment on Putin's statement "Like it, don't like it, bear with me, my beauty," noting that many Russian-speaking people understood it as a rape joke directed at Ukraine.

"Well, first of all, I would say that any rape joke would certainly cause outrage from everyone in this government, whether it comes from the mouth of an American or a foreign official. I will also note that we have never held back concerns about the falsity of some of the statements that come out of President Putin and representatives of the Russian leadership. And, of course, we are not thrilled with this 'joke,'" Psaki said.

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin recently quoted a Russian proverb when addressing the Ukrainian authorities demanding that they implement the Minsk agreements.

"You like it, you don't like it - bear it, my beauty," Putin said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a press conference in Kiev, responded to the Russian leader's words: "Ukraine is beautiful, but 'mine' is already too much."
