New talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken could take place this week, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said on CBS, UNN writes.
"We've heard some indications that the Russians are interested in engaging on these proposals, including the fact that Secretary of State Blinken and Foreign Minister Lavrov are likely to speak this week," Nuland said.
She stressed, however, that the U.S. wants "to resolve these issues diplomatically, through arms control."
"Putin has given himself that opportunity, but he has also given himself the opportunity for a serious invasion. So we also have to be prepared for that," Nuland added.
