In the first quarter of the year about 6 million tons of coal is expected to arrive in Ukraine. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal on Friday during the Hour of Questions to the Government in Parliament, reports UNN.
"Since November 2021, Ukraine has received 14 ships with steam coal. Another 1 million tons - negotiations continue to increase coal shipments for February-March this year. A total of 6 million tons of coal are planned to be delivered to TPP warehouses in the first quarter as a whole for the quarter. At the same time, oriented coal costs are expected to be 5.5 million tons," said Shmygal.
Premier noted that in parallel there is an active increase of coal supplies to warehouses, as well as its production and imports. Today there are about 800 thousand tons of coal in warehouses, which is more than it was at this time last year, the premier said.
Since the beginning of the year, coal production in Ukrainian mines has increased by almost 20% compared to the same period last year, he added.
In Ukraine, with the beginning of the heating season talked about the failure to implement the plan of accumulation of coal in thermal power plants to produce electricity. At the same time, Russia refused to export coal to Ukraine, which is used at thermal power plants to produce electricity.
Against this backdrop, Ukraine resumed importing electricity from Belarus. It has been possible to import electricity from Russia and Belarus since November 1, after months of a ban and legal red tape.
To avoid a shortage of the resource and to replenish the warehouses with fuel, Ukraine began importing it, including by sea. Ukraine's stockpiles of coal increased.
