British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that according to their intelligence, Russia is preparing to implement a plan for the "lightning capture of Kiev." He said this yesterday, January 24, during a meeting with U.S. and European leaders, where they discussed a plan of action to further invade Russia in Ukraine. This was reported by the BBC.
"Intelligence is very clear that there are 60 Russian battle groups on the borders of Ukraine, they have a lightning war plan in which they can take over Kiev, and this is something that everybody can see. We have to make it clear to the Kremlin, to Russia, that this would be a disastrous move," Boris Johnson said.
According to him, Britain is "leading the creation of a package of economic sanctions" against Russia and supplying Ukraine with defense weapons. NATO is putting forces on standby. This means that NATO allies are sending additional ships and fighter jets to Eastern Europe to bolster defenses and reinforce deterrence in response to a prolonged Russian build-up.
Russia has denied plans for military action, but experts estimate that about 100,000 troops have gathered on the border.
At the same time, the head of NATO declared the threat of a new conflict in Europe.
