The Pechersky District Court of Kiev began its consideration of a petition for a preventive measure for the fifth president of Ukraine, the leader of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko, in the case of illegal deliveries of coal from the occupied territory.
Poroshenko himself, his lawyers, the prosecution, people's deputies who came to express their support for the European Solidarity leader, and media representatives are present at the hearing, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
The session began with a 40-minute delay, as the trial participants were waiting for the judge.
According to Strana.ua, judge Oleksiy Sokolov will choose a preventive measure for Petro Poroshenko. He was appointed to his position by Poroshenko himself in 2017.
At the same time, already under Zelensky, he was not noticed in loyalty to the former president. On the contrary - arrested the director of Poroshenko-owned plant Kuznya on Rybalskaya Valery Shandra on the case of manipulation in military procurement.
We note that the State Bureau of Investigation notified Poroshenko on December 20, 2021 on suspicion of high treason and assisting terrorist organizations in the case of a criminal scheme to supply coal from the temporarily occupied territories.
Earlier, Viktor Medvedchuk, an MP of the Opposition Platform - For Life faction, and former Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn were notified of suspicion as part of the same criminal proceedings.
Poroshenko has been on a diplomatic tour since December 17, 2021. He announced that he would return to Ukraine on January 17. On the same day, the Kiev Pecherskyy District Court considered the prosecutor's motion and decided to arrest Poroshenko's property, which, according to state registers, belongs to him on the right of ownership, in particular, real estate, corporate rights, etc.
The Kiev Pecherskyy district court scheduled a court hearing on Poroshenko's restraint for 11:00 on 17 January.
