Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the Biden administration has not defined a specific format of its involvement in the negotiations on Donbass, but is interested in it.
The president said this in a conversation with journalists during a general meeting of ambassadors at the state residence "Synegora".
Zelensky assured that U.S. participation in the talks does not harm the Normandy format, and added that France is in favor of preserving Normandy.
"There is Normandy, we are now engaging the new German chancellor (Olaf Scholz) to be as interested in this format as Ukraine, or at least as interested as France," he said
"But separate from Normandy, there is communication between the U.S. president and the Russian president, and there is communication (between Moscow and Washington) at different levels. There is no specifics there now, but we are working now and maybe we will come out to a bilateral (Ukraine-RF) or trilateral (Ukraine-RF-U.S.) meeting.
Volodymyr Zelensky explained that he has passed on some new proposals to everyone who can participate in the upcoming negotiations with Russia.
"We wrote a clear, understandable 10-step plan on how to implement the Minsk agreements. It's 10 steps involving Normandy and the United States, and we passed those steps on to President Biden, and to the Russian side, and to France, and to Germany. We are preparing different proposals so that we are not reproached that we don't want to (find a way to end the war)," he explained.
Recall, the leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France at a meeting in Brussels agreed to continue work in the Normandy format.
The White House officially supports the preservation of the Normandy format, but at the same time hints at greater U.S. involvement in the settlement.
