The first death of a patient with a strain of the coronavirus Omicron has been recorded in the United Kingdom. This is the world's first confirmed fatal case of the new variant. It is reported by Sky News.

According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the first death from "Omicron" has been recorded.

"Unfortunately, Omicron leads to hospitalizations, and unfortunately it has been confirmed that at least one patient has died from Omicron," he noted during a visit to a clinic in west London.

According to him, Omicron is a milder version of coronaviruses, which nevertheless spreads very quickly.

Note that the World Health Organization has previously stated that so far no fatalities have been recorded in patients with Omicron.
