Russia rejected a new ceasefire regime in Donbas

Russia refused to reinforce the ceasefire in Donbas. Ukraine at the talks of the Trilateral Contact Group proposed to establish a ceasefire from 00.01 on December 10.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.

It is noted that meetings of the working subgroups of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) were held on December 7, during which the Ukrainian side voiced three key initiatives:

Return to a sustainable ceasefire by ensuring the implementation of measures to strengthen the ceasefire of July 22, 2020;

The opening of the checkpoint in Shchastia, Zolote, which is open from the Ukrainian side since November 2020;

Mutual exchange of detainees, which would allow the release of about 60 people in the near future.

These issues were discussed at the regular meeting of the TAG on December 8.

As for the exchange of prisoners, the Ukrainian side offered three options for the exchange of detainees, but the Russian Federation rejects them all, said the speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the TAG Alexei Arestovich in the air of the program "Right to power."

"As for the prisoners. We offered once again the exchange of persons who are mutually held in connection with the conflict. We offered three options: 13, 24 and 60 people each - almost 60, 59-58," said Arestovich.

However, all the initiatives of the Ukrainian side were rejected by the Russian Federation under far-fetched pretexts.

"On December 9, Ukraine's proposal calling for the participants in the consultations to make counter statements to return to the ceasefire from 00:01 on December 10, 2021 and commitment to measures to strengthen the ceasefire of July 22, 2020 was rejected by the Russian Federation," the report said.

In addition, at an extraordinary meeting of the TAG, Ukraine, in order to ensure a stable ceasefire was proposed to expand the composition of the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination not only by the signatories of the set of measures to implement the Minsk agreements, but also by authorized representatives of the Normandy format member states. This proposal was categorically rejected by the Russian Federation.

As a reminder, Ukraine proposed to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on December 9 to discuss a new ceasefire in Donbas. This was reported to RBC-Ukraine by the first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Andrey Kostin.
