Ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is in a grave condition after hunger strike. He can't move around by himself. Mikoloz Kipshidze, Saakashvili's doctor, said this on the "Segodnya" talk show on the TV channel Ukraine 24.
"His treatment continues for the fourth day, he is already starting to take food, but in very small doses. In addition to this, he is prescribed all sorts of transfusions and so on. I think the treatment is going well, but he is very weak. He has a lot of difficulty to walk and has a great deal of weakness. I honestly can't make a diagnosis yet, but several groups of doctors are studying it all, we'll see what happens," the doctor said.
Asked if there were any risks to the former Georgian president's health, Kipshidze said:
"Risks, of course, remain, and there are a lot of them ... he will have to rehabilitate for many months. I don't even know how long and how it will last. We are still at the beginning of his recovery... Of course, we can't rule out anything - a stroke or other afflictions of the brain, heart, liver, and so on. We are in the process of treatment, so it's hard to say how and what will happen.
