Israel has begun vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 with a Pfizer/BioNtech drug. Recently, the number of cases of infection has increased in the country.
This writes RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.
It is noted that half of the number of registered cases of infection over the past few days falls on children under the age of 11 years. There are up to 9.4 million residents of Israel in this age category.
According to the Ministry of Health, by November, this group accounted for more than a third of the new cases. Scientists doubt that Israel can achieve collective immunity if children are not vaccinated. At the same time, politicians argue that vaccination is primarily necessary to protect individual health, not to stop transmission of the virus.
Although most children have no symptoms during the illness, however, COVID-19 may carry risks in the longer term.
