Ukrainian citizen and former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is being treated at a military hospital after a 50-day hunger strike in a Georgian jail. Doctors have revealed Saakashvili's condition.
According to a member of the consilium of doctors, resuscitator Ineza Sulamanidze, Saakashvili was watched almost all day today. The doctor said that Saakashvili has had no complications so far. All procedures are going smoothly.
"Everything is set up, communication is set up, everything is going smoothly, in a very humane way. Saakashvili is satisfied with everything. Today everything is fine, his emotional state has normalized, none of the conducted procedures caused him excitement," she said.
Mikoloz Kipshidze, his personal doctor, also visited Saakashvili today. He told journalists that Saakashvili's process of withdrawal from hunger strike has started successfully, but at the moment he is experiencing headaches and occasional problems with pressure. However, as Kipshidze noted, the main concern of doctors now is the treatment of Saakashvili's post-traumatic syndrome.
"As we know, such patients have post-traumatic syndrome, which requires certain and very difficult treatment and rehabilitation ... I think it is necessary to add psychologists to this large group to continue his treatment," Saakashvili's doctor said.
