If the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is stopped, five cities on the Ukrainian-Russian border will immediately lose gas supply, and Ukraine's ability to import gas from European countries will be significantly limited. This was reported in the Operator of the GTS of Ukraine, writes UNN.
"There is a significant risk that the launch of the "Nord Stream-2" will lead to similar consequences and the Ukrainian route will finally lose transit volumes of Russian gas. As a result, five cities on the Ukrainian-Russian border will immediately lose gas supply, and Ukraine's ability to import gas from European countries will be significantly limited," the UGTSU said.
As the company informs, Ukraine will have access to a virtual reverse, which this year provided almost 90% of gas imports to Ukraine.
"But Europe will probably lose the use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities, which in 2020 stored about 10 billion cubic meters of gas of European companies," the report said.
In addition, as indicated, UGTSU will be forced to change the mode of operation of the Ukrainian GTS from transit to service only domestic routes.
The UGTSU noted that the company intends to prove this position during the procedure for considering an application for the certification of Nord Stream 2, in which the GTS operator participates.
We would like to add that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project has been completed and is awaiting certification from the authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union. The German energy regulator BNetzA said on 16 November that it has suspended the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline operator to deliver Russian gas bypassing Ukraine - Nord Stream 2 AG - as an independent transmission operator.
