Georgian Ministry of Justice explains Denisova's non-admission to Saakashvili

Georgian Justice Ministry sent a reply to Ombudsman Liudmila Denisova about her non-admission to Mikheil Saakashvili. They explained that she is not included in the "list of prisoners' visitors" stipulated by the Georgian legislation. The ombudsman said so on Facebook.

"The ministry noted that 'given Saakashvili's state of health, who continues to refuse to receive vital medical services, as well as the penitentiary's obligations to ensure his health and safety, only those visitors provided for in the Georgian code 'on detention' are allowed to see him,'" Denisova said.

She noted that she had requested a meeting with the head and chief physician of the medical facility where Saakashvili is being held, but received no response.

"While I was waiting, my lawyer brought me a letter from Mikheil Saakashvili, in which he informs me that he has hardly gotten out of bed for the third day already and that his test results are getting worse. The ward where Mikhail was placed has no medical equipment and there is even no button to call a doctor" - Denisova added.

As the ombudsman stressed, the consul and the personal doctor are not allowed to visit Saakashvili.
