Nariman Dzhelyalov faces new charges - lawyer

Crimean Tatar activist and politician Nariman Dzhelyalov faced new charges, said the lawyer Nikolai Polozov in his Facebook, reports UNN.

"In addition to the earlier charges of sabotage as part of an organized group and illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group, today Nariman Dzhelyalov was accused of smuggling explosive devices. That is, the illegal movement of an explosive device across the customs border of the Customs Union within the EurAsEC, carried out by an organized group," wrote Polozov.

The lawyer noted that the sanction of this article provides for 7 to 12 years' imprisonment.

According to Polozov, Dzhelyalov's health condition is satisfactory, "the mood is cheerful" .

Dzhelyalov told his defenders that last Thursday he was transferred from Ward 15 of the psychiatric hospital, where he was under examination, back to the SIZO.

"Nariman's detention conditions remained unchanged. At the same time, he informed us that his cell (and the entire special block) was not heated. In connection with the upcoming cold weather in Crimea this could be a serious problem. In addition, the window in the cell is not fully closed. Letters are not passed to Nariman either. They gave him one letter and left the others with the censor. That is why he can only learn about events in the outside world now from his lawyers," Polozov said.

Earlier, the FSB had already strengthened the charges against Dzhelyalov, first by reclassifying the act of incriminating him from complicity in sabotage to full participation in the commission of sabotage. Later, the charges were further tightened, under which Dzhelyalov could face up to 20 years in prison.

On October 28, Dzhelyalov's term of imprisonment was prolonged until January 23, 2021.
