I appeal to the Georgian authorities to urgently provide Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili with proper treatment that could save his life - Denisova ombudsman

The health of Mikhail Saakashvili, who is kept in Georgian penitentiary institution No.12 in the town of Rustavi and has been fasting for 39 days, is rapidly deteriorating. The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova said this in her telegram to the channel.

As the ombudsman noted, today Mikhail Saakashvili was visited by doctors, the consilium of which came to the conclusion that his state of health is unsatisfactory and can change for the worse every minute.

"I urge the Georgian authorities to immediately ensure the transfer of the citizen of Ukraine to a hospital that is equipped to provide emergency resuscitation measures and meets the standards of medical care for such patients, taking into account all the recommendations of the consilium of doctors", - said Lyudmila Denisova.

The ombudsman also noted that due to "dissemination of media reports by representatives of Georgian authorities on Mikhail Saakashvili allegedly taking food, he has refused to take any medications, vitamins and supportive medications since November 06".

It should be noted that the drugs were prescribed to him by the head of the medical department of the Special Penitentiary Service to prevent the onset of a lethal outcome.

"The inducement of Mikhail Saakashvili to refuse these medications is nothing but a way to deprive him of his life.

I ask foreign states and international human rights organizations to strongly condemn the actions of Georgian officials who violate the rights of a citizen of Ukraine to life and health.

I appeal to the Georgian authorities to urgently provide Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili with proper treatment which can save his life," stated Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova.

As a reminder, Metropolitan of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kari Nikoloz Pachuashvili said that today he visited the prison where the former Georgian President is being held and gave Mikheil Saakashvili communion.

And earlier on November 6, the Special Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia spread footage of Mikheil Saakashvili allegedly receiving food and natural juices at different times of the day.
