Ukraine received the second tranche of macrofinancial assistance in the amount of 600 million euros from the European Union

The European Commission on Monday allocated to Ukraine the second tranche of macrofinancial assistance in the amount of 600 million euros. This was reported at a briefing in Brussels by a spokeswoman of the EC.

"The European Commission on behalf of the EU today allocated 600 million euros of macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine. This is the second and last tranche under the current aid program for Ukraine after the first payment of 600 million euros in December 2020," she said.

The payment is part of a €3 billion emergency macrofinancial assistance package for ten European Union partners to help them limit the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Vladimir Zelenski thanked the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis for their fruitful cooperation and effective support of reforms.

"Together we are building a European Ukraine!", noted the President of Ukraine in his Twitter.

"The 600 million euro tranche from the EU is evidence of the positive assessment of reforms in Ukraine. Our effective cooperation with the EU, IMF, World Bank and other international partners allows us to implement ambitious projects and continue large-scale modernization of Ukraine to grow the economy and support citizens," Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal was quoted by the Government Portal as saying.

"I am grateful to our partners in the EU, especially @VDombrovskis (EC Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis) for such timely support. We are getting stronger together!", Denis Shmygal noted in his Twitter.

It was also noted that the received funds will be used to finance state budget expenditures and reduce the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
