A lockdown has begun in six Russian regions

As of Monday, October 25, six Russian regions – Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, Kursk, and Samara regions and Perm Region – began to have days off work. Thus the authorities decided to fight the spread of coronavirus. Non-working days in these regions do not coincide with federal holidays that will take place from October 30 to November 7, Russian mass media report.

In some other regions they will also start earlier – in North Ossetia on October 26, in Saratov Region on October 27, in Moscow and Moscow Region on October 28, and in St. Petersburg on October 30.

According to the media, the President of Russia gave regional leaders the opportunity to declare additional days off at their own discretion due to the local situation. He did not rule out that in some Russian regions they may continue after November 7.

During the lockdown, medical and pharmacy organizations will continue to provide services, as well as companies, working in the public utilities, energy and defense industry, will not stop working. Public transportation, including cabs, will continue to operate in the regions, and cafes and restaurants will be able to sell takeaway products. Many regions will introduce mandatory self-isolation for the elderly.

It should be noted that in Russia for six days in a row recorded the maximum number of deaths from COVID-19.
