The meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and the US Secretary of Defense took place today – in the framework of the latter's visit to Ukraine.
«I want to thank you for coming, as we agreed in the United States, to visit Ukraine. I also thank President Biden for his constant support to Ukraine, our sovereignty and territorial integrity,» the President of Ukraine said.
During the conversation, the parties focused on further deepening of practical cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, which concerns security and defense, according to the agreements that were reached during Zelensky's visit to the United States.
«The United States remains for Ukraine the main partner in the sphere of security and defense», the President of Ukraine stressed, thanking the country interlocutor for the support in logistical matters, which significantly increases the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to resist Russian aggression.
During the conversation, it was also noted that the U.S. responded quickly to the needs of the Ukrainian side, which decided to provide $60 million to Ukraine as assistance to strengthen security.
The sides also discussed the security situation in the east of Ukraine and in the Black and Azov Seas.
Volodymyr Zelenski noted the attempts to achieve peace in the east of the country as quickly as possible, to restore the sovereignty and integrity of the state, and to activate all negotiating formats to this end.
Also discussed was the cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, as well as America's support for Ukraine in its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Reforms of security and defense sector of Ukraine in accordance with NATO standards, energy security in Ukraine and Europe – these and other important topics were discussed by the sides.
At the end, Lloyd Austin assured the Head of State of Ukraine's support for Ukraine's integrity, independence and inviolability of borders.
