Omelyan acquitted in case of understatement of budget revenues

On October 18, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court acquitted former Poroshenko-era Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan.

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court accused Omelyan of committing illegal actions, which led to a shortfall of 30.4 million hryvnias in the state budget.

According to the prosecution, Omelyan in 2017 issued an order to reduce all port dues except the lighthouse by 20%. The size of one of the meetings-administrative-being a revenue part of the state budget, could be changed only by the decision of the Verkhovna Rada, and not by the Minister.

As a result, Omelyan's decision led to non-receipt of UAH 30.4 million in the state budget in 2018. (Out of the expected UAH 203.5 million, UAH 173.1 million was received). But the court did not recognize this as a crime. Omelyan is justified.
