European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore has arrived in Ukraine. This is his first visit in his new capacity, according to the EU special envoy's Twitter post.
«Good morning! My first official visit to Ukraine begins today in Kyiv. A busy day ahead is ahead in this beautiful city,» Gilmore wrote.
It is known that during his four-day stay in Ukraine, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights will hold meetings with officials, members of the public and minorities, and leading human rights defenders.
He will also meet with representatives of the Crimean Platform initiative and members of the diplomatic community, including member countries and international organizations.
In addition, Gilmore will meet in Kyiv with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Justice Minister Denys Malyuska, Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denysova, as well as Ukrainian parliamentarians and other officials.
The diplomat will also visit eastern Ukraine to meet with local authorities and local human rights organizations.
The EU Special Representative is expected to discuss EU-Ukraine bilateral cooperation in the field of human rights.
Issues related to the humanitarian situation and the human rights situation in the country will also be discussed, including in the territories not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities – in the east and the occupied Crimea.
