On October 14, exactly two weeks after former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, a Ukrainian citizen, was detained in Tbilisi. However, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has not yet sent a request for the extradition of the politician. This was reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General in response to a request from Ukrainian News.

It is noted that the department did not even prepare a request for Saakashvili's extradition.

«Part 2 of Article 574 of the CPC of Ukraine stipulates that the Office of the Prosecutor General is the central body of Ukraine on extradition of suspects accused of criminal proceedings during the pre-trial investigation. According to Part 1 of Article 575 of the CPC of Ukraine, a prosecutor who supervises compliance with the law during the pre-trial investigation or a court hearing the case or in respect of which a sentence has been rendered, in compliance with the requirements of this Code and the relevant international treaty of Ukraine. At the moment, the request of the Ukrainian bodies of pre-trial investigation to the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Office of the Prosecutor General for the extradition of Ukraine to Saakashvili has not been received,» the statement said.
