Defending the state has become everyone's business, regardless of gender or profession – Monastyrskyi congratulates Defender of Ukraine Day

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi congratulates defenders of the state on today's holiday. The video address of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was published by the press service of the department.

«I sincerely congratulate everyone on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. This great holiday united the whole country, and it has become everyone's business to protect it today, regardless of gender or profession. Dear defenders, I am proud to work with you. Your accomplishments inspire you to do your job honestly and efficiently. The Ministry of Internal Affairs unites forces that create internal security for every citizen of our country,» the minister said.

«The National Guard, border guards, the emergency service and the National Police of Ukraine are our holiday today. Every day, every hour, every minute, we defend the peaceful nights and days of the citizens of Ukraine, defend the independence of Ukraine, fight and serve for its freedom and prosperity. I am proud of everyone who has dedicated their lives to defending their homeland. I am sure that courage and our faith will surely win. Thank you for what you do. I wish you strength and inspiration, health, love and prosperity to your families, and peace and prosperity to the state. May the Blessed Virgin protect everyone. I believe in us. Glory to Ukraine!» - Monastyrsky emphasized.

Defender of Ukraine Day became a national holiday and a non-working day in 2015 on the initiative of the President of Ukraine. This decision was made in order to «honor the courage and heroism of the defenders of independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, military traditions and victories of the Ukrainian people, to further strengthen the patriotic spirit in society and to support public initiative».

By the same decree, the President abolished the Defender of the Fatherland Day, which was previously celebrated on February 23.
