Ukraine expects from Russia a clear answer on the readiness of Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said the minister Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.

«Every day I receive some news from the Russian Federation, where officials comment on the prospects of holding this meeting. Therefore, at the moment we are waiting for a clear answer from Russia, whether they are ready to meet or not,» Kuleba said at an online briefing on Wednesday.

According to the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, such a meeting could take place within the framework of the Normandy Four summit or separately.

«This meeting can take place within the framework of the Normandy summit, if it is held, and we want to hold it in the near future, it can be held separately, it is a matter of negotiations. But the main thing is that Russia now looks confused and can not give us a clear answer: whether you meet with us or not,» the Ukrainian Foreign Minister told reporters.

Dmytro Kuleba also noted that the leaders of Ukraine and the EU are ready to jointly oppose the use of gas as an energy weapon. According to the Foreign Minister, Brussels has responded to a call for formal consultations on changes to the gas infrastructure, which provides new tools to counter threats from Nord Stream 2.

«The EU is ready to counter Ukraine together with Ukraine. «It is especially important that, both in the closed part of the talks and in public, the EU has confirmed that a third energy package will be applied to Nord Stream-2,» Kuleba said.

Answering the question of Mikheil Saakashvili's detention in Georgia, Dmytro Kuleba noted that Ukraine is studying the legal side of the case and choosing the best algorithm to use in this case.

«I would like to emphasize once again that Mikheil Saakashvili is A citizen of Ukraine. And we do not throw our citizens in trouble abroad. Therefore, when a decision is made on which way to go – it can not only be extradition – then we will inform you,» - said Kuleba at an online briefing on Wednesday.

The Minister noted that Ukraine maintains constant ties with Saakashvili. «Lawyers have access to it, the consul has unimpeded access to it, several conversations have already taken place with him, where we have clearly clarified his position, and we know the position of lawyers. And now we are fully studying the legal side of this case,» - said Dmitry Kuleba.
