Today, during the Ukraine-EU summit, its participants: Volodymyr Zelensky, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen , the President of the European Commission discussed the potential membership of Ukraine in the EU and the necessary steps. This became known from RBC-Ukraine, which refers to the response of the participants of the press summit.
The President of Ukraine said that he asked the President of the European Council: «Where is the finish on this path and is it?» . As he noted, Zelensky showed a progressive trend in the negotiations. Charles Michel took the floor.
«We discussed the rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU. The arguments are very solid, strong. We agreed that we need to mobilize discussions in the EU. In recent months, we have seen this acceleration, which allows to connect our people more,» - the head of the European Council told.
The President of the European Commission spoke about three areas of work in terms of European integration.
«The fact that Ukraine is sovereign and independent, it is able to set its own political priorities, is very important to us. There are three arguments. These are reforms, gradual economic integration and political association with the EU. It is important that we are one European family and we we work together,» said Ursula von der Leyen.
In the summer of 2021, the President of Ukraine has already proposed to the European Council to take the first steps for Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
