US Chief of Staff assesses Russia's ability to launch a major offensive against Ukraine

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, US General Charles Brown, believes that fears of a possible large-scale spring offensive by the Russian occupiers in Ukraine may be exaggerated. This is reported by Defense One.

In a conversation with the publication, Brown once again called for the rapid adoption of defense aid to Ukraine by the United States. He admits that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will face continued Russian artillery shelling in the foreseeable future.

At the same time, he expressed doubts about Russia's ability to organize a new major offensive against Ukraine.

"I don't know if the Russians will be able to launch a major offensive. I mean, if you look at... what happened during... last year, the Russians actually gave up a lot of capabilities and personnel, weapons systems and vehicles to get what they got," the US chief general said.

In this context, Brown pointed to the significant losses that the Russian invaders suffered in such campaigns.

"And, as I would say, it's almost a meat grinder," the American general said.

He also expressed his opinion to journalists that the risk of escalation by Russia in its large-scale military aggression against Ukraine "is not as high as it may have been at the beginning."
