In the Netherlands, the fourth suspect in the preparation of the kidnapping of the Belgian minister was detained

In the Netherlands, a fourth suspect was arrested in connection with the preparation of the kidnapping of the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Belgium, Vincent Van Quickenborn.

This was reported by the BBC with reference to the prosecutor's office.

The detainee is a 21-year-old citizen of the Netherlands. The first three were detained on Friday, also in the Netherlands.

On Saturday, the prosecutor's office confirmed that the official's security had been increased due to a serious threat, but did not disclose details.

As reported, a car with Dutch license plates with weapons was found near the minister's house in Kortrijk last week. The minister said that the threat comes from "organized crime".

The VRT portal, based on anonymous sources, reports that the threat comes from the drug environment and that the attackers have plans to kidnap the minister. The Belgian port city of Antwerp is called one of the main "gateways" through which cocaine is brought to Europe. In 2021, law enforcement officers seized almost 90 tons of drugs there.

Van Quickenborn has been the Minister of Justice since 2020. During his rule since last March, hundreds of people have been arrested in connection with Operation "Border".
