Ukrainian Gas Storages Can Become a "Gas Safe" for Europe - Denis Schmygal

Ukraine is ready to offer additional capacity for the transit of gas to Europe in the amount of at least 55 million cubic meters per day. This was stated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal in the "Saturday Interview" on Radio Svoboda, the Government Portal reported.

"We have a transit contract until 2024, but we are negotiating to extend it for 15 years. Such negotiations are held with European partners, because they, as buyers of gas, are interested in Ukraine to remain a reliable transit of "blue fuel." In general, our gas transportation system can transport twice as much gas as the contracted volumes. The system is prepared for this and is completely reliable, "- Prime Minister stressed.

Ukraine has also applied to the EU countries with the initiative of using Ukrainian gas storage facilities as a "gas safe" for Europe, the Head of the Government noted. Ukraine historically fills its gas storage facilities with 20-26 billion cubic meters of the available 33 billion cubic meters and the remainder can be offered to European partners.

According to Head of the Government, such "gas fund" will be a good stabilizing factor for overcoming energy crises. In addition, the Prime Minister stressed that the "Nord Stream-2" is a hybrid weapon of Russia not only against Ukraine, but also against Europe.

"We have constantly pointed out to our partners that Nord Stream-2 is a hybrid weapon of Russia, and it will be used to influence the energy market in Europe. This project has not yet been put into operation, but we can already see that Russia is using it to blackmail and provoke a crisis in the EU. Ukraine will continue a dialogue with international partners to show the real danger of Nord Stream-2", Denis Schmigal said.
