The Office of the President of Ukraine will not appeal to the Constitutional Court to confirm Zelensky's legitimacy. Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President for Legal Affairs, said this in an interview.
According to her, the issue of appeal to the Constitutional Court is being promoted by Russia - this is its narrative. She recalled that this topic was raised at a meeting of the UN Security Council by Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya. He said that “the Ukrainian authorities should have appealed to the court on the issue of Zelensky's legitimacy, but they will not do so because they are afraid.”
“Therefore, we conclude that these appeals to the Constitutional Court are supported by the Russian narrative,” Mudra said.
She said that in November 2023, political consultations were held within the framework of the Jean Monnet Dialogue, with the participation of the EU, the USA, representatives of groups and factions of the Verkhovna Rada. Afterwards, a conclusion was signed on reaching agreement and understanding between representatives of all parliamentary factions.
“We agreed that the elections will be held after the war is over, and the parliament will develop a special law that will regulate this. It seems that at least six months after the end of martial law have been set aside for this. Therefore, given the provisions of the Constitution, legislation and agreements of the parliamentary factions, I believe that the president has no reason to appeal to the Constitutional Court,” Mudra said.
