President of the Czech Republic: We need to stop the war and then start discussing future agreements

Czech President Petr Pavel has called for an end to the war in Ukraine and the start of peace talks, the local media outlet Idnes reports.

“We must be realistic. It would be naive to claim that Ukraine will be able to return the occupied territories in the foreseeable future. Russia will not just give up the territories it occupies. We need to stop the war and then start discussing future arrangements. There could be some kind of compromise, but not without the consent of Ukraine, Russia and the countries that will be the guarantors of this agreement,” said Pavel.

After a peaceful settlement, he believes negotiations on Ukraine's accession to NATO are possible.

Pavel said that the West is “too cautious with supplies,” although it has the necessary weapons for Ukraine to achieve victory on the battlefield.

“Ukrainians are losing their lives and their country, and they can lose in this war,” the Czech president added.

It should be noted that this is not the first such statement by the Czech president. Earlier, Pavel said that Ukraine is unlikely to be able to return to the 1991 borders.
