Ties with NATO and EU may be at risk for Georgia due to the law on foreign agents, - US State Department

The United States has warned the Georgian authorities that its relations with NATO and the European Union could be at risk because of the adopted law on foreign agents. This was announced by the representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller.

He emphasized that the United States condemns the law on foreign interference adopted “under the influence of the Kremlin”.

Additionally, the statement noted that this law and the anti-Western rhetoric of the Georgian Dream put the country on an unstable trajectory that could negatively affect Georgia's path to integration with the EU and NATO.

The State Department representative also emphasized that the decisions made in Georgia do not reflect the correctness of foreign aid provided for 32 years to support the economy, democracy, and resistance to Russian aggression.

Miller added that the United States supports the Georgian people and their right to feelings. The country condemns the use of violence against peaceful protests, including attacks on journalists covering the demonstrations.
