Switzerland intends to hold 'peace' conference on Ukraine in mid-June - Bloomberg

Switzerland intends to hold a peace conference on Ukraine in mid-June, Bloomberg reports. The conference will be attended by 80-100 countries from the Global South.

The event may take place on June 16-17, although it is unclear how many leaders will attend.

Currently, the key question is whether China will attend the meeting. Bloomberg sources said that this is crucial for Switzerland, as Beijing's presence will make the initiative "credible." Ukraine's allies see China's participation as essential to the success of the conference, given the "influence" they say China has on the Kremlin regime.

A representative of the Swiss Foreign Ministry told reporters that the date and place of the conference have not yet been determined.

According to Bloomberg, several countries want Russia to attend the meeting as well.

"Kyiv wants to reach a common agreement on key principles that would form the basis of any future settlement before interacting with Moscow," the article says.

Bloomberg's sources said the summit is likely to take place in the Swiss city of Lucerne. The government may make an official statement as early as Wednesday, April 10.
