Norwegian Foreign Minister says it is possible to send troops to Ukraine in the long term

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in an interview that he would not rule out sending troops to Ukraine in the long term, but that there are no such plans for now.

"We have no plans to send troops now. I don't think many countries have such plans. But on the other hand, in the very long term, I don't think we should rule anything out in principle," Eide said.

The minister noted that the conversations that were held on the topic of potentially sending Western troops to Ukraine were not really about combat units for direct confrontation with Russian forces, but about support, training, advisors, etc.

According to him, NATO wants to support Ukraine at a level where Ukraine succeeds and Russia fails.

"But there is no desire to be a direct party to the war, because it could lead to a world war, which we do not want to see," the minister said.
