No decision on income from Russian assets to be made at EU summit on March 21-22 - Deutsche Welle

EU leaders will not be able to agree on a decision to confiscate the proceeds of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine at the EU summit, which begins today, March 21, because of Hungary's reluctance to direct these funds to buy weapons for the Armed Forces. This was reported by DW.

According to a source from diplomatic circles, there is a common understanding among most EU member states that the funds should be used to buy weapons and ammunition for the Armed Forces.

But Hungary opposes this idea, saying that this money "should be used for anything, but not for weapons for Ukrainians." Therefore, it is unlikely that the proposal will be approved at this summit, the DW source said.

The source added that the discussion of Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the EU will also be a "controversial issue" on the summit's agenda, as several EU members are against it.
