Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson has begun negotiations with congressmen who are preparing a compromise version of a bill that provides aid to Ukraine, CNN reports.
This document proposes to allocate $10 billion less money to Ukraine: $47.69 billion (previously the amount of $60.06 billion was discussed).
In addition, the bill includes measures to strengthen border control (a key Republican demand) and revive Trump's "Remain in Mexico" program, under which migrants will have to wait for decisions of the US immigration court outside the US.
The process is expected to be completed by mid-March.
The publication notes that passing the law through the House of Representatives is an extremely difficult task. In addition, it will require broad support from Democrats to pass, which is not an easy task given that the package contains new border restrictions and aid to Israel, which is unlikely to please the left.
