Polish Minister apologized for Ukrainian grain spilled by farmers

On behalf of the farmers, Polish Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski apologized for the spilled Ukrainian grain. But he said that farmers can be understood, and Ukraine's reaction was excessive. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland.

"On behalf of Polish farmers, I apologize for this act of desperation and ask for understanding of their extremely difficult situation," he said and stated he wants to get restrictions on the supply of agricultural products from Ukraine.

According to him, his ministry is conducting technical negotiations with the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, "during which we want to determine the terms of trade exchange that would limit the flow of goods that violate the stability of agri-food markets."

Siekierski said that "this is a wrong form of protest, but it is often used by farmers in different countries."

"Farmers did not follow their emotions, but we should remember that they are in a very difficult economic situation. At the beginning of spring field work, they have no money to buy fertilizers and plant protection products. It is hard not to understand their desperation," he said.

He also stated that representatives of the Ukrainian authorities did not hold back either.

"The forms of the statements by the Deputy Minister of Economy and earlier by the mayor of Lviv was too harsh. Other Ukrainian politicians were also too emotional in their presentation of information," the minister said.
