The Verkhovna Rada proposes to adopt amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine to increase punishment for conscripts who illegally leave the country to evade mobilization. This is stated in the text of the relevant draft law.
It is proposed to add a provision to the Criminal Code that illegal border crossing with the intent to evade is punishable by imprisonment for three to five years.
For a repeated similar offense or committed by a group of people, it is already a case of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
The draft law also states that a person is released from liability if he or she voluntarily returns to Ukraine within 6 months after the violation.
