Recent mass failures of Internet in Russia may indicate that the country is preparing to switch to a domestic network. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on Telegram.

Recently, Internet outages have been recorded in Russia more and more often under the pretext of protecting Russians from strikes by Ukrainian UAVs. For example, from January 25 to January 30, mobile Internet was cut off in the Leningrad, Pskov, and Novgorod regions. On January 30, a massive Internet outage was recorded across Russia.

"In fact, the main reason for the Internet outages in Russia may be the testing of the mechanisms for the transition to the 'sovereign Internet'. Roskomnadzor has already reported on the installation of a 'threat counteraction complex' in the networks of providers, which makes this possible," the report says.

The CCD suggests that the Kremlin also wants to prevent possible protests, similar to those that have recently taken place in Bashkortostan and Yakutia.

The Center reminds that on March 17, presidential elections will be held in Russia, after which the probability of a massive Internet outage in Russia is very high.
