According to media reports, the former Russian so-called governor of occupied Sevastopol, Dmitry Ovsyannikov, has been detained in London. This was reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the print version of The Times newspaper.
Ovsyannikov is suspected of violating sanctions legislation. He is under arrest.
The former governor headed the Russian-occupied city from 2017 to 2019 and served as Russia's deputy minister of industry and trade before and after that period. In 2020, he was suspended from office and fired from the government over a scandal involving indecent behavior at Izhevsk airport.
The Times reports that the former governor was arrested at his London home. Ovsyannikov is due to appear in court on February 20 on charges of circumventing sanctions, opening a London bank account, as well as four payments of £65,000 and possession of £77,500 in cash.
