A Russian court has sentenced the so-called former "Minister of Defense of the DPR" Igor Girkin to four years in prison. He was accused of "public calls for extremist activities". This was reported by the BBC.


During the debate on January 18, the prosecutor asked to sentence the terrorist to four years and 11 months in a general regime colony. At the same time, the maximum penalty in Russia under the article on public calls for extremist activity is five years in prison.


The trial was held behind closed doors, despite the fact that Girkin and his defense requested that it be opened to listeners and journalists.
