Biden discussed the "strategic consequences of inaction for Ukraine, the United States, and the world" at a meeting with the leadership of Congress, the White House reports. But, as The New York Times writes, the meeting "did little to break the deadlock on aid to Ukraine."
At the talks, Biden said: "Congressional inaction endangers the national security of the United States, the NATO Alliance, and the rest of the free world. The president called on Congress to quickly provide additional funding to support Ukraine and send a strong signal of US determination," the statement said.
At the same time, Biden agreed on the need to solve the problems on the southern border, which is why Republicans are blocking aid to Ukraine.
According to The New York Times, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson insisted on strengthening measures to stop migration at the southern border.
"I told the president what I've been saying for months, which is that we need changes at the border, significant changes in policy. We have to insist - we have to insist - that the border is a top priority," Johnson said after the meeting.
The Democrats, on the other hand, said after the meeting that they were optimistic about a quick conclusion of an agreement regarding Ukraine.
